DR. KING'S LEGACY

What is MLK Day and why do we celebrate?
 
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an official federal holiday in the United States, observed on the third Monday of January. It serves as a tribute to the influential civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his enduring impact on society. The annual celebration is scheduled to occur on the Monday nearest to January 15th, which marks Dr. King's birthday.

This holiday provides an opportunity to honor and commemorate Dr. King's significant contributions to the advancement of civil rights, equality, and nonviolent activism.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the HBCU MLK Day "Unity" Invitational is to showcase high-level HBCU basketball, celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and inspire future generations of HBCU leadership through mentorship, scholarship and community service.

OUR GOAL

The goal of the HBCU MLK Day "Unity" Invitational is to foster career opportunities for current and future student-athletes of HBCU institutions through community networking, economic inclusion, and corporate mentorship.
